Here it is everyone! All the news I have of the Playstation 4. I got alot from IGN but I've been scouring the net for all the news from the Playstation Conference.
The Dualshock 4 pic that was leaked was a prototype of the PS4 controller. Here is the actual controller. It's definitely similar to the prototype but doesn't look as bulky which was a big concern for me. the controller features touch input, a "Light Bar" and It features a share button and headphone jack and interacts with a stereo camera. Share lets players upload videos easily at any time. Once I'm able to find some closeup pics of the controller I'll post em.
The pillars of PS4 are Simple, Immediate, Social, Integrated and Personalized. PlayStation 4 supports suspending and reloading play sessions. This is the basically the same thing that you can do on the Vita. The console has a secondary chip for uploading and downloading in the background. This is super awesome cause now you can download and play a game or watch Netflix at the same time. Digital games can be played as they are being downloaded. Kinda cool but not gamechanging.
The system supports seamless uploads of gameplay, spectating friends' gameplay sessions in real time as well as integrated chat. This was rumored a few days ago and I think it's a cool idea. Details on this are scarce like how long can you record or can you edit on the console things like that. Players will have profile pages like Facebook integrated to the "full PlayStation ecosystem." This is something I think alot of people will find stupid like maybe Siuilarun but as a social networker I think it's pretty sweet. PlayStation 4 offers personalization and will "get to know you." This is an interesting idea I can't wait to hear more about.
The Netflix and Amazon Instant video services will return to PlayStation 4. In addition, Crackle, Crunchyroll, Facebook, Vudu, NHL (hells yeah), MLB.TV, and Cinemanow applications will be available on PS4.
We talked about Sony purchasing something called Gaikai in our last podcast episode and none of us knew anything about it. Well here you go guys. Sony calls Gaikai, "the fastest most powerful network for gaming in the world." The plan is for Gaikai to allow you to explore any PS4 game. You'll be able to instantly experience anything you want, trying it for free, sharing it if you want to and purchasing things you fall in love with. Gaikai and Sony are also partnering with UStream. Your friends will be able to interact with you while you're using the Gaikai service, posting comments to your screen while you're playing, or perhaps even providing in-game help. The PlayStation Cloud service with Gaikai is also being used to allow you to play games from previous generations. Sony intends on rolling out the service in phases, but the plan is to allow backwards compatibility via streaming over time. The service is slated to work with PS4, PS3, Vita and some smartphones and tablets. So this all sounds super awesome!! Really sounds like they are packing this new console with everything.
Sony and Gaikai officials announced that remote play will be a huge part of the PlayStation 4 ecosystem. Specifically, Sony revealed that the PlayStation Vita can be used to play PlayStation 4 games on the go. Of course they said the same thing about the PS3 and Vita but that hasn't gone to well. Sony hopes to make every PlayStation 4 game playable remotely on Vita and potentially even other devices. In these cases the PlayStation 4 becomes a server and the device (say, for example, a PlayStation Vita) becomes the client. A live demonstration of this technology was shown during the conference with the newly announced PS4 game Knack running on a Vita, on-stage. Again this same thing was shown at E3 I believe with Killzone being played on a Vita but again that has not happened so we just gotta hope Sony actually goes through with these plans this time.
On stage, other platforms like Apple's iPhone and iPad and Android handsets were only mentioned in passing. But in Sony Computer Entertainment's official press release more details were provided on what iOS and Android users have in store for them:
"A new application from SCE called 'PlayStation App' will enable iPhone, iPad, and Android- based smartphones and tablets to become second screens. Once installed on these devices, users can, for example, see maps on their second screens when playing an adventure game, purchase PS4 games while away from home and download it directly to the console at home, or remotely watch other gamers playing on their devices."
The whole downloading from your IPhone makes me very excited! If I can start downloading a game while at work and have that shit ready for me when I get off I will be one happy gamer
And lastly, the PS4 is slated for a Holiday 2013 release.
So there you have it! Everything we know about the PS4 as of right now. I didn't get into the games shown at the Conference in this post I'll do it in another.
